Problem:

The customer was experiencing corrosion problems after brazing the two metals on the inside of the seal (see photo of critical area). The customer needed to remove the rust while still maintaining the integrity of the copper brazing material, and increase the corrosion protection of the part.

Brite-Passivation

Solution:

Electropolishing the inside of the seal removed the rust while keeping the copper braze intact. By removing the free iron at the braze joint, the electropolishing enhanced the corrosion resistance.

Note to engineer: Brazed components offer special complexities for electropolishing. Metal removal must be precisely controlled to avoid weakening the joint. Additionally, as two or more materials are joined together, great care must be exercised in removing all chemicals. We have made significant investments in state-of-the-art ultrasonics and other means of providing chemically free parts ready for final assembly.
