MP35N (UNS R30035) is a cobalt-nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy that combines ultrahigh tensile strength above 260 ksi with excellent corrosion resistance and proven biocompatibility. That combination makes it the material of choice where a component must survive decades inside the human body without corroding, fracturing, or provoking a biological response.

Because MP35N develops its strength through heavy cold work and aging, its as-received surface typically carries drawing lines, embedded tooling debris, and residual tensile stress — all of which act as crack initiation sites under cyclic loading. Electropolishing removes 0.0002″ to 0.0005″ of material per surface, dissolving those peaks and subsurface defects rather than smearing them over, and leaves an outstanding, uniformly passive finish.

Able has electropolished MP35N for decades, including pacemaker and defibrillator lead conductors, neural stimulator electrodes, orthopedic cerclage cables, subsea fasteners, and aerospace structural fasteners. Components ranging from fine-gauge drawn wire to heavy threaded bolting run through the same validated process.

Send us your MP35N sample parts. We’ll electropolish them at no cost.

Benefits of Electropolishing MP35N

Outstanding

Outstanding Finish

Electropolishing dissolves surface peaks preferentially, taking MP35N from a drawn or machined condition down to a bright, directionless finish suitable for Class III implantable devices.

Biocompat

Biocompatibility

Removing embedded iron, tooling debris, and free surface contaminants leaves a chemically clean, chromium-enriched surface that performs predictably in long-term contact with blood and tissue.

Fatigue

Fatigue Life

Micro-notches, drawing lines, and residual tensile stress are the usual fatigue initiation sites in MP35N. Electropolishing removes them, which matters for lead conductors and cables that flex millions of cycles in vivo.

FDA

FDA & ISO

Able is ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 registered, with documented process control and full traceability to support Class III implantable device submissions.

Thrombus

Reduced Thrombus

A smoother surface gives platelets and proteins fewer sites to adhere to, reducing thrombus formation on blood-contacting components such as lead coils and electrodes.

Stress

Stress Removal

Wire drawing, coiling, and machining leave a cold-worked layer under residual tensile stress. Electropolishing removes that layer entirely rather than working it over, as mechanical polishing does.
