This series of pages is designed for those engineers that design, maintain, fabricate or specify stainless process equipment. We have pulled together our most current electropolishing case histories, shop photos and troubleshooting materials to guide you through this complex subject.
These materials are designed for the industries listed below. Although each industry has unique and specific standards, our experience since 1954 has shown some very common issues. We will focus here on many of the common areas and invite you to contact Able Electropolishing should you have other more specific questions or issues.
Key Industries Served

- Bulk Powder
Able Electropolishing has an experienced and well-staffed team to help you with samples, quoting and technical support. For further assistance call us at 888.868.2900 and ask for Sales ….we stand ready to explore how our unique process can benefit you!
Since 1954, we have electropolished a huge variety of stainless process equipment for all the industries listed above. Today, the cleaning, smoothing and decontamination aspects of electropolishing are becoming essential in improving production rates in process plants. Increased use of chlorinated cleaning agents, demands for longer production runs, more accurate product metering and reduced downtimes have forced attention to the stainless surfaces.
Electropolishing Stainless Steel for Reduced Corrosion:
Our process is proven to enhance corrosion resistance of the full range of stainless steels. When electropolishing stainless steel, we process not only 304 and 316 stainless, but the full range of precipitating hardness grades, free machining and 400 series as well. Our process has been validated using ASTM A 967, ASTM-117 salt spray, SEMASPECS 90120403B-STD (ESCA), 91060573B-STD (AES and 92120401B-STD (SEM), as well as ASTM Test Method F-1372 (SEM).
Generally, a smoother more native surface allows product to flow easier without clogging and with longer cycles between cleaning. Able Electropolishing is used to improve Ra finishes to meet what is perhaps the toughest of standards in the semiconductor industry. Most use a profilometer to validate surface improvement. It is important to note here and in our tutorials that best results are achieved often in combination with skilled surface preparation.
Improved sealing, reduced outgassing, reduced galling, reduced bacterial buildup, and other benefits are achieved with electropolishing. With more than 55 years of experience, chances are, Able Electropolishing may have some solutions to your process equipment problems.
Yes, we process many more alloys. Visit our Learning Center and see for yourself how we can apply these same benefits to carbon steel, aluminum, copper and many other alloys as well.
